Xiaomi 15 Ultra Officially Launches Worldwide

A 50MP variable-aperture main + 50MP ultrawide + dual telephoto setup makes the Xiaomi 15 Ultra one of 2025's most ambitious camera phones.

Xiaomi has launched the 15 Ultra globally, and on paper it's the most aggressive camera phone of 2025. A 1-inch main sensor with variable aperture, dual telephotos, and Leica's color science — the spec sheet reads like a flagship from 2027.

What's exciting

The variable-aperture main camera is a feature only Xiaomi and Huawei are seriously pursuing. f/1.6 lets in dramatically more light at night; f/4 gives you crisp daylight shots without diffraction. Most phones rely on software to fake this — actual mechanical aperture control is rare.

Leica's color science is mature now, three generations in. The Authentic and Vibrant profiles are useful presets, not gimmicks.

What we're cautious about

Xiaomi's global software experience still trails its hardware. HyperOS 2 is cleaner than past MIUI versions but ads in pre-installed apps remain, and update cadence outside China is uneven.

Pricing in the US is also rumored to come in just under $1,300 — well above what made past Ultras a value proposition.

Worth waiting for our review

We have a unit en route. Expect a 30-day deep dive in three weeks. The camera promises are big — we'll find out if the software pipeline keeps up with the hardware.
