Daylight
Both phones produce excellent results in good light. The S25 Ultra's 200MP sensor pulls more fine detail at full resolution; the iPhone 16 Pro Max delivers more natural skin tones and better dynamic range straight out of the camera. Edge: iPhone for portraits of people, Samsung for landscapes.
Low light
Samsung's reworked night mode finally beats Apple in pure detail retention. The iPhone still wins on consistency — every shot looks pleasant — but the Galaxy now produces sharper text on signs, cleaner highlights on street lights. Edge: Samsung.
Video
No contest. Apple's ProRes Log + the new audio mix modes keep video as Apple's clearest win. The S25 Ultra is great; the iPhone is studio-class. Edge: iPhone, decisively.
Zoom

Verdict
If you only care about photos and don't shoot video, the S25 Ultra is the better camera in 2025. If you shoot video — especially for social — the iPhone 16 Pro Max remains the safe pick. We'd buy whichever fits your ecosystem; the gap is smaller than YouTube comparisons suggest.
